This easy sandwich bread is a versatile and beginner-friendly recipe, perfect for anyone who wants to make fresh bread at home without having to go through the hassle. Known for its soft and fluffy crumb, this bread is ideal for making a variety of sandwiches.
Ingredients
4 cups (500g) flour
2/3 cup (160ml) water
3/4 cup (180ml) milk
2 ¼ teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon (5g) sugar
1 ½ teaspoons (7g) salt
3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, room temperature
Directions
In a large bowl, combine the yeast, 1 teaspoon (5g) sugar, and 2/3 cup (160ml) water. Let stand for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.
Add the flour and salt, milk, and butter. Begin kneading for about 5-10 minutes, until smooth and pulling away from the sides of the bowl.
Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Let the dough rise for about 1 hour at room temperature (warm space) until doubled in size.
Spray a 9x5in (23x13cm) loaf pan with oil and set aside.
Spray a light coat of oil on a work surface.
Press dough into a rectangle with one side the width of the pan, 9in (23cm).
Roll dough into a log.
Place dough seam-side down in prepared loaf pan.
Cover loaf with kitchen towel and let rise in pan for 45-50 minutes at room temperature.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush loaf with olive oil.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top.
Cool in pan for 5 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack and let cool completely.
